Abstract
Factors affecting the ability of potentially chelating amine ligands to for m chelated fluoroboron cations are explored by F-19 and B-11 NMR spectrosco py and fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry (FAB-MS). Five-membered chel ate rings form much more readily than six-membered. Some potentially chelat ing ligands give rise to additional fluoroboron species by various redistri bution and decomposition reactions.
