Abstract
Northern range extensions are described for two large decapod crustaceans n ot previously recorded in the Canadian waters of the northwestern Atlantic. A male inflated spiny crab, Rochinia crassa, was captured by a crab trap i n 1999 on the Scotian Shelf at 43 degrees 45.08'N 63 degrees 45.77'W at a d epth of 243 m. This species was reported previously from south of Marthas V ineyard, Massachusetts (U.S.A.) to Cuba. A female purplehead gamba prawn, A risteus antillensis, was captured by a shrimp trawl near the southwest edge of the Grand Bank at 44 degrees 06.5'N 52 degrees 57.8'W at a depth of 652 m. Previous distribution records range from off Nantucket, Massachusetts t o French Guiana.
