Abstract
The transmission line is an important component in the overall electric tra nsmission system and its safe working is therefore important. It can be dam aged by adverse climatic conditions. A steel-reinforced aluminium conductor (ACSR) is often used for high-voltage transmission lines and a testing sys tem has been developed using eddy currents to examine the outer aluminium w ires, and magnetic flux leakage (MFL) to test the steel core. The principle s and the method are discussed in this paper. The results indicate that it is feasible to use comprehensively the methods on transmission lines.
