The dynamic thermal and elastic behavior of a rod due to a moving heat sour
ce are investigated. The hyperbolic heat conduction model is used for the p
rediction of the temperature history. Thermally induced displacements and s
tresses are determined. An analytical-numerical technique based on the Lapl
ace transformation and the Riemann-sum approximation is used to calculate t
he temperature, displacement and stress distributions within the rod. The e
ffects of different parameters such as the moving source speed, the convect
ion heat transfer coefficient are studied and presented. (C) 2001 Academic
