T. Zheltonozhskaya et al., Reversible structure destruction of intramolecular polycomplexes formed bypoly(acrylamide) and poly(vinyl alcohol), under hydrodynamic shear flow, MACRO SYMP, 166, 2001, pp. 255-260
A set of theologic and thermodynamic researches of diluted and semi-diluted
aqueous solutions of poly(acrylamide) to poly(vinyl alcohol) grafted copol
ymers (PVA-PAA(N)) forming intramolecular polycomplexes (Intra PC) by the m
ethods of static light scattering, interferometry and theology (for gradien
ts of shear rate j less than or equal to 1312 s(-1)) was carried out. It is
established, that the thermodynamic water quality towards the copolymers i
mproves, when the quantity N of grafts increases, but on the whole it remai
ns close to theta -solvent. In PVA-PAA(N) solutions under action of a hydro
dynamic shear field two level of reversible structure destruction are shown
. The first level is destruction of network of pinnings and the second one
is destruction of Intra PC structure together with destroying of primary as
sociates of copolymer macromolecules. It is shown, that the character of de
struction (gradual or uneven) and its depth depend on intensity of the hydr
odynamic sheer field action, concentration of solution and also copolymer s
tructure. Possible reason of reversibility of PVA-PAA(N) structure destruct
ion in strong hydrodynamic fields is pointed out.
