A Ni-Al-Cr-Fe alloy was prepared by the rapid-quenching method using a sing
le copper roll and its microstructure and surface state were studied and co
mpared with the parent alloy by using XRD, SEM, EMPA and BET methods. The c
atalytic properties of both alloys used for the hydrogenation of adiponitri
le were evaluated. The results show that the rapidly quenched Ni-Al-Cr-Fe a
lloy exhibited fine and homogeneous structure and contained more NiAl3 phas
e; distributions of promoter Cr and Fe were highly homogeneous. After activ
ation, the rapidly quenched Ni-Al-Cr-Fe possessed smaller pore volume and p
ore size, compared with the parent alloy. Catalytic properties of the rapid
ly quenched Ni-Al-Cr-Fe alloy were superior to those of the parent alloy in
hydrogenation of adiponitrile. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights r
