Microstructure formation in the Ti-49.6at.% Al-1.9at.% Fe alloy after fast
and slow cooling from 1200 degreesC was examined and analyzed by X-ray diff
raction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy combined with electr
on probe microanalysis. Formation of a previously unidentified si phase is
reported and discussed. It has a tetragonal lattice with lattice parameters
a = 11.5 Angstrom, c = 13.8 Angstrom. Possible orientation relationships b
etween the tau ' (2) phase and the parent FeTi(Al) are [010](tau '2) parall
el to [001](FeTi(Al)) [100](tau '2) parallel to [110](FeTi(Al)) and [001](t
au '2) parallel to [(1) over bar 10](FeTi(Al).) (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B
