N. Lobontiu, Distributed-parameter dynamic model and optimized design of a four-link pendulum with flexure hinges, MECH MACH T, 36(5), 2001, pp. 653-669
A four-link pendulum, with two flexure hinges, is presented. The system is
described by a non-linear distributed-parameter model. By assuming the defo
rmation of a compliant link is identical to the static deflection, the mode
l number of degrees of freedom reduces to two. The finite element results v
alidate the analytic model. A search is conducted to select the designs tha
t determine the free extremity moving along a prescribed trajectory. A pend
ulum prototype produced a quasi-elliptical trajectory, according to model p
redictions. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
