Strained cyclopropenes. Synthesis and reactions of 3-isopropenyl-6-methylbicyclo[4.1.0]hept-1(7)-ene in situ

7-Bromo-4-isopropenyl-1-methylbicyclo[4.1.0]heptane generated by electroche mical reduction of the corresponding dibromocyclopropane reacted with stron g bases to give short-lived 3-isopropenyl-6-methylbicyclo[4.1.0]hept-1(7)-e ne, whose formation was proved by Diels-Alder reactions with isoprene and a llocimene in situ. The reaction of 7-bromo-4-isopropenyl-1-methylbicyclo[4. 1.0]heptane with 2-mercaptoethanol in the presence of potassium tert-butoxi de demonstrated the possibility for formal replacement of the bromine atom in the substrate by sulfide moiety.
