Abstract
An experimental study of the axial strain on I-c degradation of multifilame ntary Bi(2223)/Ag tapes by different methods has been performed. The tapes were stressed by three kinds of tensioning set-up (expanded turn, short str aight sample and U-shape spring) and the transport current versus strain I- c(epsilon) was measured. A comparison of I-c(epsilon) curves showed that th e applied tensioning system may influence the measured sensitivity of Bi-22 23 filaments, apparently against the tension strain. The lowest strain limi t for critical current degradation (epsilon (irr)) was observed for the exp anded turn and the highest limit for the U-shape spring system. The observe d differences in I-c(epsilon) curves are discussed and analysed.
