This paper presents a TMN-based Personal Communication Support System
(PCSS) which supports personal mobility, personalized call management,
service personalization, and service interoperability in distributed
multimedia environments. The design of the PCSS is strongly influenced
by recent research activities in the field of advanced telecommunicat
ions and distributed computing technologies, such as Intelligent Netwo
rks (INs), Universal Personal Telecommunications (UPT), Telecommunicat
ions Management Network (TMN)/ X.700 OSI Management, X.500 Directory S
tandards, and Electronic Location Technologies. In particular it takes
into account the beginning paradigm shift in telecommunications towar
ds object-based service modelling as indicated by the TINA-C activitie
s. The concepts presented here have been developed within the BERKOM I
I project ''IN/TMN Integration'' performed at the Technical University
of Berlin on behalf of Deutsche Telekom Berkom (De Te Berkom). The re
sults and experiences gained during the development of the PCSS are cu
rrently being applied in the TINA-C auxiliary project ''Personal Commu
nications Support in TINA'' which is jointly performed at GMD-FOKUS an
d the Technical University of Berlin on behalf of Deutsche Telekom AG.
