The association between bilirubin and cardiovascular disease is controversi al. In a prospective study of 4.276 subjects, we demonstrated that a higher concentration of serum bilirubin was associated with lower risk of myocard ial infarction and cardiovascular disease in men, but the pattern was not c lear in women.
