Abstract
Of the variables cardiopulmonary bypass time, central venous pressure, and serum interleukin-6, the best independent predictor of postbypass pleural e ffusion was found to be cardiopulmonary bypass time. Immediate postbypass s erum interleukin-6 levels were also correlated with the number of days of p ostoperative fever.
