Abstract
The photothermal depth profiling, for the determination of the thermal cond uctivity in inhomogeneous samples, is approached by a new recent method bas ed on the Genetic Algorithms. We introduce this procedure, describe the bas ic mechanism, and show some typical numerical result, discussing the role o f the critical parameters. Finally we analyze the sensitivity to the noise and present some experimental results on a hardened steel sample.
