The transformation efficiency of Methylobacillus sp. strain 12S, using elec
troporation, was unaffected by the growth phase of the cells but competent
cells grown at 21 degreesC had a 1.9 x 10(3) times higher transformation ef
ficiency than those grown at 30 degreesC. Heat shock treatment further incr
eased the transformation efficiency up to 7 times.
