Intercalation complexes of three different Hungarian kaolinites with h
ydrazine and potassium acetate were investigated by FT-IR (DRIFT) spec
trometry, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetry combined with mass s
pectrometry. Differences were found in the thermal behaviour of the co
mplexes as well as in the rehydration - reexpansion patterns of the he
ated intercalates. An XRD method is proposed for the distinction of ka
olinite and 7.2 Angstrom halloysite present in the same mineral.
