ELEVATED DOSES OF CARMUSTINE AND MITOMYCIN-C, WITH LONIDAMINE ENHANCEMENT AND AUTOLOGOUS BONE-MARROW TRANSPLANTATION IN THE TREATMENT OF ADVANCED COLORECTAL-CANCER - RESULTS FROM A PILOT-STUDY
F. Franchi et al., ELEVATED DOSES OF CARMUSTINE AND MITOMYCIN-C, WITH LONIDAMINE ENHANCEMENT AND AUTOLOGOUS BONE-MARROW TRANSPLANTATION IN THE TREATMENT OF ADVANCED COLORECTAL-CANCER - RESULTS FROM A PILOT-STUDY, European journal of cancer, 30A(10), 1994, pp. 1420-1423
10 patients with advanced colorectal cancer were treated with elevated
doses of carmustine and mitomycin C. The regimen was potentiated by L
onidamine and supported by autologous bone marrow transplantation. The
results of this pilot study were encouraging, with a response rate of
50% and a significantly better survival for responders versus non-res
ponders. No appreciable toxicity of the therapy was observed. This asp
ect, together with the simplicity of the procedure, calls for further
investigations to confirm the good therapeutic index of the treatment.
