The Orissa super cyclone hit the eastern coast of India in October 1999 and
resulted in drastic changes to land and coastal water areas. This Letter d
emonstrates the use of IRS-P4 Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM) data for mapping c
hanges resulting from this cyclone. The results show pronounced change in t
he vegetation cover of Orissa province and also change in the chlorophyll a
nd suspended matter concentrations of the ocean water. The eight spectral c
hannel capability of OCM sensors enabled us to map land cover changes and c
hanges in coastal water after the cyclone.
