Abstract
This introduction reviews some history of how lexical representations have come to play an important role in sentence processing research. I t discusses a number of issues related to lexical representations and sentence processing, including the importance of timecourse informatio n in theorising, the importance of frequency information in theories o f sentence processing and the question of the grain of frequency infor mation.
