A series of hexachloronadimides containing phosphine oxide in the backbone
were synthesized by the reaction of bis(3-amino phenyl) methyl phosphine ox
ide (BAP) with pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA)/3,3',4,4'-benzophenone tetra
carboxylic acid dianhydride (BTDA)/2,2-bis(3,4-dicarboxy phenyl) hexafluoro
propane dianhydride (6F) and hexachloronadic anhydride in glacial acetic ac
id/acetone.
Structural characterisation of the resins was carried out by infrared, nucl
ear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Thermal charact
erisation of uncured resin was done by differential scanning calorimetry an
d thermogravimetric analysis. The decomposition temperature of uncured resi
ns were above 310+/-10 degreesC with T-max 330+/-10 degreesC in nitrogen at
mosphere. Char yield at 800 degreesC ranged from 37-42%.
