Abstract
The thermal desorption of atomic oxygen during the transformations BiO2-x - -> beta -Bi2O3 --> alpha -Bi2O3 is shown to be due to the removal of overst oichiometric oxygen from the bulk of beta -Bi2O3 Oxygen formed at the first stage is desorbed in a molecular form. The maximum desorption rate of atom ic oxygen is found before the phase transformation beta -Bi2O3 --> alpha -B i2O3. The activation energy of the diffusion of excess oxygen in the beta - Bi2O3 lattice is approximate to 30 kcal/mol.
