The copolymerization of fluorinated 2-cyanoacrylates and 1,1,2-trichlo
robutadiene (TCB) in the presence of radical initiators was studied in
benzene solutions and in bulk. The Mayo-Lewis method was used to calc
ulate the reactivity ratios for 1,1,3-trihydrotetrafluoropropyl-2-cyan
oacrylate (FPCA) and TCB at low conversions (r(FPCA) = 0.73, r(TCB) =
1.16) The structure of copolymers was studied by H-1 and C-13 NMR spec
troscopy. The FPCA-TCB copolymer has a structure with a normal head-to
-tail addition, The structure of copolymer units is similar to that of
the corresponding homopolymers. The FPCA-rich copolymers contain isot
actic sequences of the FPCA units. The structure of the TCB units is t
ypical of 1,4-addition.
