The copolymers of acrylamide with N-(2-D-glucose)acrylamide were synth
esized. It was shown that the reaction of these copolymers with concan
avalin A yields hydrogels, whose degree of swelling is controlled by t
he molar ratio between the units of N-(2-D-glucose)acrylamide and conc
anavalin A. For the reaction of the resulting hydrogels with a glucose
solution, it was found that there exists a threshold concentration of
glucose, above which the hydrogel transforms quickly into a soluble s
tate.
