Electrochemical oxidation of zinc and cadmium in a solution of pyrroly
l)methylidyne]-N'-tosylbenzene-1,2-diamine, H2L, in acetonitrile affor
ded the compounds [M(HL)(2)], M=Zn, Cd. The crystal structure of bis-{
N-[(2-pyrrolyl ethylidyne]-N'-tosylbenzene-1,2-diaminato}zinc(II) has
been determined by X-ray diffraction. The structure consists of monome
ric molecules with the zinc atom in a distorted tetrahedral geometry.
The IR and H-1 NMR spectra of the complexes are discussed and related
to their structures.
