Mortierella tsukubaensis sp nov., isolated from uncultivated soil at Tsukub
a, Japan, is described and illustrated as a new homothallic species. Simple
, large sporangiophores with terminal, many-spored sporangia, large chlamyd
ospores and naked zygospores are characteristic of M. tsukubaensis. A key o
f the 13 known homothallic species is provided.
