Abstract
Tracking in high-rate experiments requires fast and radiation-resistant det ectors. A suitable technology are kapton-based straw tubes operated in drif t mode. We have developed a technology to construct tracking modules up to 4.5 m length utilizing short strawlets. This new type of self-supporting de sign using carbon-rod reinforcement offers significant advantages over prev ious chambers. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
