Abstract
A calorimeter with 180 plastic scintillator bars interleaved with 180 iron bars has been built and tested xith pion and electron beams at CERN. The pl astic scintillator bars, coupled to wavelength shifting fibers, are read wi th multi-anode PMTs and Amplitude-Time-Pattern self-triggering digitizing e lectronics. This type of calorimeter could be well suited for the construct ion of large, many kton detectors fur neutrino oscillation experiments on t he CERN to Gran Sasso CNGS beam or for the neutrino factory.
