Abstract
The opening of methylketene dimer, followed by aldol reactions of the resul ting enolate, provides a convenient access to syn,syn-dipropionate aldol ad ducts of a variety of aldehydes, These aldol adducts are useful precursors in the synthesis of complex polypropionates.
