Some substituted-2-(4'-methoxybenzenesulphonamido) glutaric acid analogs (5
a-m, 7a-d) have been synthesized and tested for their possible antineoplast
ic activity against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) in Swiss albino mice us
ing tumour (ascitic fluid) weight as activity parameter. Some of these comp
ounds possess encouraging antitumour activity. A QSAR study, performed by t
he classical Hansch method, explains the significance of hydrophobic bindin
g and electronic influence in the mechanism of antineoplastic action in thi
s group of compounds.
