We report on the experimental study of the phase periodic resistance oscill
ations in an Andreev-type interferometer consisting of a mesoscopic normal
metal ring (Ag) connected to a superconductor (Al). We observe a spectacula
r modulation of the oscillations due to an interplay of the phase transfer
from the superconducting condensate to quasiparticles and interference phen
omena in the normal ring. We discuss the results within the framework of re
cently developed theory of the long-range proximity effect. (C) 2001 Elsevi
