Abstract

We describe the generation of amplitude- and frequency-modulated light with a modulation frequency equal to the fundamental vibrational frequency of m olecular deuterium (2994 cm(-1) approximate to 90 THz). This is a first ste p toward the synthesis of subfemtosecond pulses with prescribed temporal sh ape.
