Yh. Song et al., Energy loss of heavy ions specularly reflected from surfaces under glancing-angle incidence - art. no. 052902, PHYS REV A, 6305(5), 2001, pp. 2902
A theoretical model is developed to study the energy loss of heavy ions spe
cularly reflected on a solid surface at a glancing angle using the dielectr
ic response theory and the specular reflection model. A local-field correct
ion and a plasmon-pole approximation for dielectric function are employed i
n the low- and high- velocity regimes, respectively. Also, the Brandt-Kitag
awa model is used to express the distribution of the electrons bound to the
projectiles. We obtain analytical expressions fur the position-dependent s
topping power and the surface image potential. The energy losses, dependent
on the charge state of the ions and the incident angles, are calculated an
d compared with the corresponding experimental results.
