We analyze the dynamical properties of arrays of coupled solid-state lasers
. The interaction mechanism, valid in the weak-coupling limit is local and
described by a complex coupling parameter. We focus our attention on the po
ssible synchronization or self-organization properties of the system. Besid
es the well-known phase of total order corresponding to complete locking, w
eaker collective order is observed and related to the formation of clusters
of synchronized units. We discuss, in particular. the roles played in the
existence of Such ordered state by the real and by the imaginary parts of t
he coupling parameter.
