J. Carter et al., Role of knockout contributions in giant resonance studies with (p,p ' x) reactions - art. no. 057602, PHYS REV C, 6305(5), 2001, pp. 7602
The giant-resonance region in Ca-40 and Ca-48 has been studied using the re
actions Ca-48(p,p' n(0))Ca-47, Ca-40(p,p' p(0))K-39, and Ca-40(p,p' alpha (
0))Ar-36 for incident proton energy E-p = 100 MeV. Knockout cross sections
for these reactions were calculated within the distorted wave impulse appro
ximation formalism using parameters fixed from previous investigations. The
results quantitatively account for the data at higher excitation energies
while the knockout contributions underneath the main resonance strength are
small.
