On August 22, 1999 the most modern SC-line, COMPACT PM 5, went on stream. D
uring the extremely short period between ordering the paper machine in June
1998 and start-up in August 1999, the entire papermaking process was optim
ized as part of a system partnership between Lang Papier and Krefeld. Final
ly, printing tests were done to ensure the overall project success.
The annual output of PM 5 with a trimmed paper and newsprint. The paper mac
hine concept epitomises the continuous development towards lower operating
costs and maximum operating efficiency. For the first time, the newly devel
oped Tandem-NipcoFlex press section with two shoe presses in a row is emplo
yed in the production of SC grades. Additional features of the PM 5 concept
are the DuoFormer TQ with moduleJet headbox, the closed draw through press
and dryer section, the single-tier TopDuoRun dryer section, the new Sirius
reel, and an optimised web run through the 45 degrees inclined calender. t
he unique 45 degrees inclined layout of the calender stack enables calender
roll changes to take place during single-nip newsprint production. the new
eight roll Janus MK 2 is Voith Sulzer's second online multinip calender in
stallation for SC paper production.
