Abstract
Cadmium sulfide nano-particles with mean size of 2.3 nm have been successfu lly prepared by irradiating an ethanol solution of cadmium chloride and car bon disulfide with Co-60 gamma -ray. The product is characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photo-electr on spectrum, respectively. The influence of the irradiation dose on the siz e of cadmium sulfide nano-particles is investigated by W-VIS absorption spe ctrum. A possible mechanism for the formation of cadmium sulfide nano-parti cles in ethanol system is proposed according to the result of experiments. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
