Vv. Belyaev, Dependence of the nematic-isotropic liquid transition temperature in low-polarity nematic liquid crystals on their molecular parameters, RUSS J PH C, 75(5), 2001, pp. 841-848
A model of occupied volume taking into account actual molecular configurati
ons was proposed to establish the dependence of the phase transition temper
atures and other physical properties of nematic mesogens on geometric param
eters of their molecules. The proposed model explains the dependence of the
transparency-point temperature of liquid crystals on the form-factor of th
e occupied (excluded) volume over a wide range of values of the considered
characteristics. In terms of the proposed approach, the polarizabilities of
the mesogenic molecules were calculated, and the relationship between the
transparency-point temperature and the binding energy of the molecule was e
stablished.
