A self designed re-radiating type heat shield module of 1 m length with AIS
I 310 stainless steel and ceramic fibre was installed on delay table of hot
strip mill at Rourkela Steel Plant and its short and long term performance
s were studied. A panel equilibrium temp. of 782 degreesC was achived for a
bar of 1280 mm width at a panel height of 350 mm. The transfer bar thermog
raphy without and with the heat shield was estimated by mathematical modell
ing. An average temperature gain of 25 degreesC for the transfer bar has be
en predicted with the installation of full length heat shield on top surfac
e of the delay table. An average decrease of run down temperature by 18 deg
reesC for the transfer bar has also been predicted with the use of top pane
ls.
