The mechanical properties, microstructural informations and fracture charac
teristics of spot and flash butt welded specimens of two low carbon (0.04 -
0-05%C) niobium (0.05% Nb and 0.15%Nb) microalloyed HSLA steels have been
studied in the present Investigation. The tensile strength of the flash but
t - welded steel sheets were found to he better than those of the spot weld
ed sheets. The hardness profiles and the fracture characteristics of the we
ldments were influenced by the microstructural transformations and bonding
mechanisms.
