Glycodelin is a major glycoprotein that is synthesized in the endometrium i
n response to progesterone and relaxin exposure. Endometrium-derived glycod
elin-A has contraceptive and immunosuppressive properties. Glycodelin is ab
sent from the endometrium during the fertile periovulatory phase, but is sy
nthesized in this tissue during the peri-implantation phase and is abundant
du ri ng the last week of th e luteal phase. Changes in local and/or circu
lating glycodelin concentrations have been observed in women with reproduct
ive disorders. The chemical modification of glycodelins has resulted in com
pounds with antiviral activity.
