Abstract
Steroid hormones are an important class of signalling molecule, regulating a diverse range of processes in metazoan eukaryotes, The actions of these h ormones are mediated by intracellular receptor proteins that act as ligand- activated transcription factors, The ability to reconstitute steroid recept or signalling in the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, provides a ge netically tractable model system in which to investigate steroid receptor s tructure and function. Through targeted disruption and genetic screening, a n increasing number of genes have been identified that are likely to have a role in steroid receptor action.
