Abstract
The complexity of wound management increases os knowledge on the healing pr ocess is accumulated and a broad variety of new technologies for wound trea tment become available. Various types of wounds form and heal differently. Patient characteristics are increasingly recognized as crucial in determini ng wound outcome. The prospect of new therapies also represents greater cha llenges in terms of cost effectiveness and safety issues. integrating advan ced knowledge, new technology, and risk-benefit and cost-effectiveness conc epts with traditional surgical methods should have a substantial beneficial impact in wound management.
