We report a case of heterotopic ossification of a pedicled intercostal musc
le flap that had been wrapped circumferentially around a bronchial sleeve a
nastomosis. This ossification caused severe bronchial stenosis and recurren
t pneumonias. Stent insertion failed, and the patient ultimately required c
ompletion pneumonectomy. We recommended that caution be used when wrapping
intercostal muscle around any important lumen. (Ann Thorac Surg 2001;71:170
