I. Bastian et al., Kanamycin susceptibility testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis using mycobacterium growth indicator tube and a colorimetric method, ANTIM AG CH, 45(6), 2001, pp. 1934-1936
Two novel systems were evaluated for performing indirect kanamycin suscepti
bility tests on 72 strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The microplate Al
amar blue colorimetric method (breakpoint, 2.5 mug/ml) and the Mycobacteriu
m Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT) system (breakpoint, 5.0 mug/ml) both produce
d 98.6% agreement when compared with the conventional proportion method per
formed on 7H10 agar using 5.0 pg of kanamycin/ml. Both systems provided res
ults within an average of 1 week.
