Abstract
We have calculated the non-radial oscillation in slowly rotating relat ivistic stars using the Cowling approximation. The frequencies are com pared with those based on the complete linearized equations of general relativity. It is found that the results with the approximation diffe r by less than about 20 per cent for typical relativistic stellar mode ls. The approximation is more accurate for higher order modes as in th e Newtonian case.
