Abstract
The lipid second messenger PIP3 was previously thought to be generated excl usively by type I PI 3-kinases. Now, a novel route of PIP3 synthesis, contr olled by an unrelated enzyme family, has been discovered, increasing our un derstanding of the versatility of PIP3 in cellular signalling.
