Abstract
The myelinotrophic action of Prosaptide((TM)) D5 was investigated in develo ping rats. Sulfatide concentrations in brain and sciatic nerve were determi ned to assess the development of myelination. Subcutaneous DS-injection sig nificantly increased sulfatide concentrations in both brain and sciatic ner ve by 250 and 150% over controls, respectively. D5 promoted ERK phosphoryla tion in iSC Schwann cells similar to prosaposin. The results showed that D5 treatment stimulated a myelination process in developing rat. (C) 2001 Els evier Science B.V.
