Ticlopidine is a reasonable alternative to prevent stroke and myocardi
al infarction when aspirin is intolerable or ineffective. It can be li
mited, however, by its severe adverse effect profile. The most worriso
me of these is neutropenia, although clinicians must be mindful of oth
er adverse events that may be caused by this drug. A patient experienc
ed elevated liver function tests probably due to ticlopidine.
