The impact of highway pollution on the content of fluorescing hydrocarbons
in surficial sediment in the Bay of Koper (Gulf of Trieste, Northern Adriat
ic sea) was studied by UV fluorescence spectroscopy. The impact was evident
in elevated concentrations of fluorescing hydrocarbons in sediment samples
collected along the highway. The coastal marine environment in the Bay of
Koper was affected in a rather narrow zone along the southern shore.
