Abstract
A rebuttal to the article of Frazer and Mercado, who presented a sonar mode l for humpback whale song, is presented. This rebuttal considers the noise- limited form of the sonar equation, current understanding of humpback whale behavior and the characteristics of humpback whale songs, along with argum ents from an evolutionary perspective. Arguments from all of these differen t aspects do not support the model of Frazer and Mercado.
